ASUS Fonepad 7 LTE (ME372CL) combines the benefits of a 7-inch tablet and phone with a decent size. With Intel on board and stereo speakers, can intrigue geeks looking for a remarkable hardware with good facilities.

Between design and functionality
Already from the first sentence of this test I have confidence that this will be a unique review due to the device, which applies. ASUS Fonepad 7 LTE (ME372CL) is not an ordinary tablet. At least not in the assumption of the manufacturer. If you've seen spot, you know what I mean. ASUS strongly promotes the phone side of the device and tries to show some way to do it, how to use the 7-inch equipment as a smartphone. Not that I was shocked, because the last few weeks I tested a few tablets with a screen with the same diagonal and application to handle voice calls. So far, it was always just a supplement. And how is it here? [Nggallery id = 808 template = techmaniak] Regardless of whether you call ME372CL phone or tablet, stylistically perfect for the currently prevailing trends. Plastic used here, which, like Memo pad 7 makes a good impression to the touch, and at the same time does not allow to define as a cheap material. Actually, plastic is in two forms. The first and overwhelming that cover plecków – are white and matt making weapons from fingerprints and dust. On the front panel, in turn, find plastic inserts masking stereo speakers and the outline of the same material running around the edge of the unit. Housing creaks, but a little bends (you have to use a lot of force, so there is nothing to worry about). Grabbing the tablet in the middle, after compression senses that both plecki and screen coating bend under pressure. This produces a gentle spots on the screen. The display covered with glass lid, and although care about the tablet during the test she had created on the screen one small scratch. You have to be so extremely careful to protect equipment from damage. On housing led two physical buttons (to wake and volume), under which the entry was located on the microSD card. On the opposite side of the tray provided for attaching the microSIM card. There are also audio and microUSB connector.
ASUS VersaSleeve 7
In the package from ASUS yet found a universal case for tablet 7-inch ASUS VersaSleeve 7. This inconspicuous at first glance protector allows you to set your tablet in two different configurations. Made of soft imitation leather, is extremely elegant, and at the same time will protect the device from damage in the fall. Framed by visible hem the edges. Interior wyścielono soft touch material that cleans your tablet's screen from fingerprints and smudges. The flap pouch is closed with a magnet – holding up very stable and there is no fear of slipping out of the device. As previously mentioned, the case allows you to set your tablet in two different positions, so as to comfortably watched us something or wpisywało longer text. Will be used for the two bars – one sewn in the back fender, and a longer and thinner, eject from the inside of the flap. Both are very stiff, which ensures the stability of attachment. The mere insertion of the tablet it is a bit more difficult, but the manufacturer has posted the instruction manual, which you can find at this link . I would add that the case comes in several different colors. I think it is worth the money. 🙂
Similar to the Memo Pad 7, so here we find the main camera with 5-megapixel lens equipped with autofocus. It is a pity that there was no LED Illuminates. Camera application, both in terms of functionality and appearance resembles that of memo pad. We can customize a variety of settings, including white balance, exposure, ISO (in the range of ISO 50 – ISO 800), a shutter release, auto focus mode (intelligent or lens at infinity). What, however, more interested users, is shooting modes. The choice we have: HDR, beautification (gently blurs the image to self-portraits have been nicer), panorama pictures at night, removing an intelligent (after a series of photos of the tablet eliminates moving objects in the background), with a smile (choice of burst shots face to everyone in the final picture came out smiling, perfect for family photos: D) and animated GIF. The samples show analogous tendencies which manifested camera mounted on the memo pad. The colors are the considerable przejaskrawieniu, with the result that they are alive, juicy, but a bit unnatural. Devotion to detail is at a good level, even if access to sunlight is limited. The place where the ambient light is not much (sample 4) you can see a large amount of grain, and the same picture is blurred. In summary, the autofocus is doing well, but I've seen better pictures. Video camera records with 1080 vertical lines (25 frames / s). Clips highlight the lack of image stabilization, but the resulting image is one of the best in this segment of the hardware. I recommend opening each picture to see it in all its glory. Then you can see I have described drawbacks.
On sunny days, it can be hard
The tested model has IPS matrix working at 1280 by 800 pixels. Screen technology allows you to maintain faithful color images even when we look at the tablet at a larger angle. The display is not working could in an extremely high-resolution, but in everyday use definitely works. Fonts are well smoothed, and Internet browsing can be done also in portrait mode – although still recommend the horizontal orientation, because then we get a larger working space.While the side of the image is good, it may fail maximum illumination reaching only 326 cd / m 2. This means that on sunny days we'll have problems reading the content presented on the screen. On the other hand, the minimum value goes down to 11 cd / m 2, and this will provide a level of comfort using the tablet after dark – the emitted light will not dazzle, and thus, reading books to pillows will be pure pleasure. It is worth mentioning that the panel ME372CL handle up to 10 different pressure points.
Stereo on board
As one of the few 7-inch tablet, the ASUS Fonepad 7 has a front stereo system. After a long experience with models equipped with a mono speaker hidden on his back, tested model made an electrifying impression on me. The sound is not breathtaking intensity (78 dB), but positively surprised by excellent quality and spaciousness – the bass are well mapped and treble do not run and do not distort the sound. In addition, we receive an application which can adapt the profile of the music to the activity. Five, five-plus! [Test slug = "wifi-tablet" axis = "minus" product_id = "20010"] Wi-Fi operates in two ranges, ie. 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, which will increase the bandwidth between the tablet and the router, if the latter also supports the 5 GHz band. In our test, however, the sensitivity of the antenna was too weak to in the third, the most demanding scenario, when the machine is on a different floor than the router, continue to maintain the connection with the network. The GPS module supported by GLONASS need only 3 seconds to find my location, and another two, to present data strengthen the border 13 feet. An efficient and accurate, will bring satisfaction to those who plan to purchase tablet designed for navigation.
As with this phone?
The set of programs will find two applications dedicated tablet phone functions – writing text messages and dialing. Dial pad in this model is a giant, it's impossible to hide. Entering a number with one hand is possible, but it seems to me that the perfect solution would be to re-buy a Bluetooth headset. Then we get a powerful tablet with a comfortable phone. Yes – convenient. Writing text messages on the onscreen keyboard is a pleasure. We need to use two hands, but thanks to tapping the letters is much faster. Without speakerphone will feel some discomfort when we apply the 7-inch equipment ear. However, calls are of good quality, but had a problem with the corresponding location of the speaker. It's probably the fact that I do not have much experience in dealing with such a large phone. ,) My caller did not report any problems in perception, and the sound in the earpiece was clean and clear. Interestingly, there is a special function that enables recording conversations. I think it is worth noting this fact – who knows when such knowledge might come in handy. : Dtablet has a broad compatibility with accessories OTG. We were able to connect a flash memory and hard disk to an external power supply, and the tablet not only supports the FAT32 file system, but also NTFS. I had also problems with support for mouse and HUB Facilities – passive and active. Fonepad is available in two versions with different built-in memory capacity. For testing I received a version with 16 GB on board, which can be extended with external microSD card (up to 64GB). The additional settings ASUS can find the option enforces a system of application installation on external storage medium. Great option for those who want to install some heavy games. For a moment I thought that maybe I overlooked a similar option in the memo pad 7, but no, that one does not have any such distributions.
Tablet has a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 15 Wh, which is about 3950 mAh. With the backlight reduced to 120 cd / m 2, the cell allowed for more than 8 hours of continuous movie theater, 6.5 hours surfing the Web using Wi-Fi and two hours less, if we use the Internet within LTE. [Test slug = "battery" virtual = "video-wifi-off, internet-wifi, internet-3g-wifi communicator, load-ac" product_id = "20010"] The practice shows that the tablet will be able to survive a whole day of work, although not at full speed. Indeed, the use of LTE will soon consume energy, but occasional Web browsing with enabled sync in the background will not kill the battery so fast. The battery will also need to watch at least two films, even in air travel. Overall, not bad, although the Lenovo S5000 little lacking.
Performance / functionality
ASUS was pleased to Intel processors, and it is not surprising. The manufacturer says on its website that ME372CL equipped with the Intel Atom Z2520, but such a system has only a maximum processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. For more likely to think so Intel Atom Z2560, because its specification coincides with the data given by the CPU Identifier and Quadrant, and this refers to the clock speed of up to 1.6 GHz (system capacity growth technology supports Hyper-Threading) and a dual-core PowerVR graphics SGX544 MP.Asphalt 8: Airborne runs on high detail graphics and with them retains full liquidity, with delicate jams at the beginning. The game was unplayable for another reason – faulty gyroscope, who worked at the beginning of a long delay to finally shut down completely. After restarting the tablet sensor to work, but still with a big delay. I hope that the UUT is an isolated incident. As a consolation, I will add that I installed Modern Combat 5: Blackout, which launched the "optimized" graphics. Work smoothly at the same time. In Dead Trigger 2 menu stutters the game, and the gameplay itself is quite nice (medium details). Tablet recreated most of the videos, but failed to start the video at a resolution of 4K or DTS audio codec. Viewers gently to bind, especially when scrolling. Zooming in and out is much smoother. The equipment operates on the Android version 4.3, which really surprises me, because launch tablet actually lived recently and did not even have it yet in all Polish stores, and already tested models of this manufacturer of Android version KitKat. Well, maybe Fonepad see its updates. GUI looks like the nucleus of ZEN UI, which I found in memo pad 7 and Transformerze TF103C. The interface is rougher, less pampered visually, but it still looks neat and pleasing to the eye more than the default, androidowy. Transitions are animated smoothly when the tablet does not perform any operations in the background, small jams are visible if you install the application. Beam notifications and abbreviations has been fully harmonize, what seems to me a much more practical solution than the presence of two independent strips. At the bottom, in addition to the virtual control buttons can find even one used to call "Floating Apps" or mini-applications that run independently of other operations performed on the tablet. We can call calculator, AudioWizard (see below), English Dictionary, Video, Unit converter, timers and compass. Ran a music player, but set and so it is good, and the tablet does not have problems with liquid moving boxes. [Nggallery id = 810 template = techmaniak] Among the applications znadziemy added yet:
- AudioWizard – allows you to adjust the audio profile to the current activity. Predefined profiles are energy saving, Music, Film, Recording, Games, Voice;
- Do It Later – a program for reminders;
- File manager – as the name suggests, allows you to view files;
- Splendid – a program to personalize the display profile. We can choose the color temperature of the display and improved image quality;
- WebStorage – helps in automatic uploading images to disk in the cloud;
- People – pretty, again maintained in the address book and blue colors;
- Energy saving function – a program that allows you to manage your battery power. We get to choose from three modes: creative, optimized and manual;
- SuperNote – a really cool application for quotation. We can write, chalk and draw, and all of template imitating card;
- Story – to create a diary of our life in the form of a photo album;
- and … Mirror, AppLock to block access to applications and configuration wizard.
In my opinion the frontend deserves praise because it introduces a breath of fresh air to the interface and its functionality has been expanded with the behavior of common sense. We can not indeed reasonable measures to uninstall programs from the manufacturer, I can not see the need.
Summary / evaluation / review
One of a kind
For a period, when I had the chance to test the ASUS Fonepada 7 LTE (ME372CL), and this was quite a long time, I was accompanied by the feeling that here I have to deal with the tablet ideal – in the sense that it's no longer needed. Here we have stereo speakers, a good matrix IPS, Android overlaid ASUS, Intel processor, 16 GB of internal memory and even LTE modem. It's all packed in a structure that is not worthy of even luxManiaK. ,)ASUS has created a product which is a kind of benchmark. Yes, the market will find quite a few models of tablet 7-inch with the function of the ring, but none is so heavily promoted as a phone, as the tested model. By this also can not approach the evaluation clearly. As a tablet, Fonepad 7 LTE is a sensational device. Sure, will be equipment with a stronger processor on board and later Android, but with a candle to look so good stereo speakers in this sector tablets. In addition, the tablet offers LTE modem – at any rate new models available in our market. As mobile equipment, in turn, include shortcomings on the part of the highlight of the maximum, which effectively hinder use of the device on the outside and the camera, which although good, did not meet my expect. Excels while performance and even wish to say that this is a strong competitor for models with mid-range. What Intel, the Intel – let's be honest. In general, I'm very settled on that. Fonepad 7 is certainly noteworthy and price looks pretty good, considering that combines two devices. [Temperatura2 product_id = "20010"]
If you still not convinced you this model, refer to the manufacturer's another tablet, that so often mention in the text: ASUS Memo Pad 7 is a great alternative. More youth in terms of appearance, the efficient Intel and newer enhanced systems ZEN UI overlay. When purchasing, make sure, however, to select the option of 16 GB (for more details on the test). It should also look for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 with LTE, which is also nice, but less efficient. This in turn should allow for slightly better mileage on the battery.
