Overmax Solution8 at first glance attracts the attention of an attractive technical specifications. On board we find a good IPS screen viewing angles, and a dual-core processor. Investment also encourages the presence of a 3G modem. Recently tablet debuted in our editorial. We decided to double-check it and see whether it is really worth a look. We invite you to read the manic review.

Construction / quality

Nice design and solid construction

Tablet features a simple and elegant form, and dark colors. Slender beams pass in the side gently contoured back panel clearly divided into the metal and plastic part. It looks nice and aesthetically. Matte finish does not attract attention, marking the manufacturer and model are the cost. Front as a whole (both the screen and the frame it circumflex) is covered by a sheet of protective cover.

The housing is not uniform. Rear part of the panel is made of metal. The rest, including the fastening frame is plastic. This solution gave the corresponding structural rigidity and stability with optimal balance. Assembly quality is on a good level. Housing does not bend under pressure and does not squeak at any point. Mounting slots are equal. Protective sheet does not adhere exactly to the screen, which produces the effect of "hot tub" over the entire surface, but only with a stronger touch. [Nggallery id = 130 template = techmaniak] The device is easy to use for both the horizontal and vertical directions. With plastic items will not slip out of your hand, and while the case remains a comfortable temperature. The buttons are easily accessible and have a low pitch. In addition to the classic (for the fourth generation of Android) system switch and volume control, we can find the button for the feature back. SIM and microSD slot are shifted toward the rear of the unit. Inserted cards will not affect in any way the ergonomics.

The list of equipment you will find two webcam. The front has a resolution of 0.3 megapixels. Was placed in the middle of the frame surrounding the screen, on the short side. This will allow us to conduct video conferencing, but the average quality, not deviating from the market standard for the equipment budget. The second webcam was located in the back, in the corner. You can count on about 2-megapixel resolution. The list of accessories complements the microphone and stereo speakers mounted along the longer side.

Screen

There we IPS middle class

Tablet is equipped with IPS screen 8-inch diagonal and a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. It is a budget standard for this generation of tablets. The display offers excellent viewing angles, adequate transparency and minimal changes in contrast, a change of perspective. Colors and other image parameters are on average. Overall, the display is above average.

Backlight Power ranks average. We can vary continuously within a narrow range, the easy operation is also possible at lower values. On board we find the light sensor. Matrix no flashes at any point. Not visible discoloration or noticeably lighter or darker fields. Not recorded in the copy test "dead pixels".

supports multi-touch screen with five pressure points. Point resolution is high. The sensor has been relatively well-calibrated and do not get confused with the classic for Android gestures (slide, pinch, stretch, etc.) – even while charging the tablet. The touch is usually recognized without delay.

Equipment

With Solution8 no problem we will call.

Overmax Solution8 is equipped with audio jack 3.5 mm (to which we can hook up headphones or speakers), microSD card slot (supports media up to 32 GB) and a microUSB connector, acting as both a communication port and power supply (included charger kit has a plug in the standard, but it is possible to charge via your computer). In the set you will not find a full-size adapter, USB female. According to the manufacturer, the tablet offers support for OTG standard and supports external accessories. I can not confirm this – perhaps had a defective copy of the test port, but for 8 proven editorial devices (mouse, hard disk with its own power supply, hard drive without its own power supply and 5 pendrives different classes) were correctly identified only one – not the first have youth media, low-speed read and write.

Overmax Solution8 / photo tabletManiaK.pl

wireless communication facilities are more extensive. We can count on the WiFi card and Bluetooth – in the case of both systems I noted no loss of stability of the connection. From the Settings tab, you can order the continuous operation, even when the display is turned off. On board we find a 3G modem that supports SMS-ing and ringing (not compatible with the card Aero2). GPS module completes the list.

Battery

The battery provides over 5 hours

Overmax Solution8 is equipped with integrated in the lithium-ion battery. Characterized by the capacity of 4300 mAh. With monotonous work I was able to "squeeze" the tablet over 5 hours while maintaining comfortable conditions of use, which is pushing up the device in terms of power efficiency at an above-average level. The device consumes the most power while maintaining an external 3G modem work. The results of all the tests I've included below. Tablet battery test (screen brightness set to 50%):

  • work in console mode, WiFi enabled, running game – a loss of 27% within an hour;
  • work in console mode, WiFi is not enabled, run the game – the loss of 23% within an hour;
  • work in playback mode, WiFi enabled, playing video in full screen mode – loss of 18% within an hour;
  • work in playback mode, WiFi is not active, playing a movie in full screen mode – loss of 15% within an hour;
  • work in the browser mode (WiFi), running a web browser – a loss of 26% within an hour;
  • work in the browser mode (3G), running a web browser – a loss of 32% within an hour.

Of course, much depends on the brightness of the screen. Increasing this parameter to 100% (relative to the presented scenarios) we have to reckon with increased consumption (about 20%). Charging is done via a microUSB port (producer joined a set of dedicated USB charger) – it is possible to recharge the device, or it is possible to maintain the current state of battery charging device for your computer.

Performance

The equipment offers the functionality of the console and the reader.

Tablet is built around a dual-core processor designed MT8377 ARMv7 architecture. The computing unit has a nominal clock speed of 1.2 GHz and works with PowerVR SGX graphics chip 531st The various processes and applications can use 1 gigabyte of DDR3 RAM. After deducting the fixed system of processes is around 600 MB. As a data warehouse, we can use 4 GB of memory in use. Of course, some storage space is taken up by the operating system and installed applications. [Nggallery id = 132 template = techmaniak] On board we find Android devices version 4.0.4 (ICS). The operating system usually works flawlessly. Navigation is smooth. There may be a short downtime when you start or quit the application. However, this does not affect much on comfort. Before we go any further, you should visualize the performance of the tablet with numbers. I ran three popular benchmarks – AnTutu (6158 pts.), Quadrant Professional (2686 pts.) And An3DbenchXL (25,669 pts.). These results can be successfully compared to the performance of the model presented by Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71, as shown in the charts below. [Nggallery id = 134 template = techmaniak] screen keyboard has four rows of keys. Regardless of the keyboard, the keys are uniformly distributed across the width of the display. The vertical unit is a good tool for reading PDFs, and browse to write better rather use the horizontal layout.

Overmax Solution8 / photo tabletManiaK.pl

Overmax Solution8 handle most everyday applications – the most popular software package checked with Google Play equipment coped well with the "heavy" eBooks. No problem, listen to music, and games, we can count on a satisfactory liquidity position even graphics-intensive (eg Dead Trigger). Not all applications, however, are compatible (eg, Horn, Death Dome). A web browser is working fine. Supports Adobe Flash, and streaming audio and video. The function has been tested on pages offer streaming video – for example, drhtv.com.pl ). In games we have to reckon not only with the processed data (I checked on the basis of the game Settlers Online ). Media tested with the following characteristics:
  • mkv, 1080p, h264, 40Mbps
  • mkv, 1080p, h264, 10Mbps, dts; subtitles
  • mkv, 720p, h264, 3Mbps, vorbis, subtitles;
  • mp4, 720p, h264, 6Mbps, ac3;
  • mkv, 720p, h264, 600kbps, aac / mp3.

Tablet is manifested problems with correct operation of high-speed clips. And so films 40 and 10 mbps is not recreated, while at 6 mbps could be seen "tearing" of the image.

Summary, evaluation and review

Overmax Solution8 is an attractive option for those looking for a mobile tablet, while larger than the classic 7-calowiec. The equipment is well made and has extensive communication facilities. Note the function calling and SMS-ing, so that the tablet can replace our emergency cell phone. Media handling problems are noticeable, but do not exclude the functionality of the device. Overall, Solution8 falls above average. [temperature] APPEARANCE / QUALITY | 4 | HOME | 3.5 | OUTPUT POWER | 3 | PERFORMANCE | 3 | SOFTWARE | 3.5 | EQUIPMENT | 4 [/ temperature]
